BY GOD'S GRACE, MAY OUR FAMILY TREE BEAR GOOD FRUIT AS WE GROW TO KNOW & LOVE HIM MORE EACH DAY.

LESS & MORE

Less.

It's something I tend to seek out with intentionality. In a world that proclaims MORE at every turn (more stuff, more money, more me, more.....you name it, just get MORE!), there is good reason to strive for less in the ways that Jesus addressed.

"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal."
Matthew 6:19

I can honestly say that less, in this way, to me is actually more. The Lord has increased my desire for less of what this world has to offer as He has consumed my heart and satisfied me to full with more of Himself. He's my kind of more.

Less.

It's something I want more of...and yet, in recent months, the Lord has been stirring, causing the eyes of my heart to refocus on something infinitely more. He's been on the move, revealing even more of what pleases Him, revealing even more of what devotion to Him produces, revealing even more of what He's asking our family to pursue. It's clear He's calling for more and we're attentive.

“Is not this the fast that I choose:
 to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke,
to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke?
Is it not to share your bread with the hungry
    and bring the homeless poor into your house;
when you see the naked, to cover him,
    and not to hide yourself from your own flesh?
Then shall your light break forth like the dawn,
    and your healing shall spring up speedily;
your righteousness shall go before you;
    the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.
Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer;
    you shall cry, and he will say, ‘Here I am.’
If you take away the yoke from your midst,
    the pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness,
if you pour yourself out for the hungry
    and satisfy the desire of the afflicted,
then shall your light rise in the darkness
    and your gloom be as the noonday.
And the Lord will guide you continually
    and satisfy your desire in scorched places
    and make your bones strong;
and you shall be like a watered garden,
    like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.
And your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt;
    you shall raise up the foundations of many generations;
you shall be called the repairer of the breach,
    the restorer of streets to dwell in."
Isaiah 58:6-12

Indeed there's been a stirring (jolting?) and it's really hard to look away. We just don't live like that.
When Jesus beckons for more, the compelling response from those who love Him is...obedience.

The only response of genuine, action-producing faith is...more.

"He must increase, but I must decrease."
John 3:30

It's ironical, the way this relationship with Jesus works. The more He increases, the more we decrease. The more we decrease, the more He increases to the point of spilling over and it's really uncontainable actually as He ushers us into His versions and variances of more.

It's inevitably expanding and fruitful to be malleable in the Potter's hands.

"Make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control,
and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection,
and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from
being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ."
2 Peter 1:5-8

As our knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ increases and our love for Him all the more, we bear fruit which keeps in step with the Spirit.

"If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit."
Galatians 5:25

Our hearts beat for the things that God's heart beats for.

Our hearts break for the things that God's heart breaks for.

{This is our faith...expressed...through both less and more.}

"What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him?

If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them,
'Go in peace, be warmed and filled,' without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that?

So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

But someone will say, 'You have faith and I have works.' Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder! Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless? Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar? You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works; and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, 'Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness'—and he was called a friend of God.

You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.
For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead."
James 2:14-24, 26

CHICKIE HAIR

That's what we call it...reminds us of when the chicks were little, fluffy puffs.

Willow, you have a way of melting us with your precious, messy, chickie hair.

"For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground;
I will pour my Spirit upon your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants.
They shall spring up among the grass like willows by flowing streams."
Isaiah 44:3-4

WELCOME FALL

Fall is here...the trees have made it known.

This beautiful red maple stands post as a constant reminder.

Yesterday a deer galloped through our yard, a huge male with antlers tall. He was gorgeous!
Our first large wildlife on our property and a regal portrayal of God's creation set amongst the rest.

"As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you,
O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God."
Psalm 42:1-2

Fall...It's a special time of year and a gift to experience the seasons of nature more vividly here on our mountain.

Cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove warm the stove top, our hearts, and our home as we welcome this season of thanksgiving,
as we welcome pumpkins, vibrant colored leaves, and crispness in the air, as we welcome this blessed season...fall.

"I will praise the name of God with a song; I will magnify him with thanksgiving."
Psalm 69:30

MABEL

She needed a home...

How could we say no?!

And Mabel means "loveable".

That she is.

She'll be loved and loved...

...and loved...

...and loved!

First bath:

All clean!

Welcome to the family, Mabel!

You fit right in!

"Let all that you do be done in love."
1 Corinthians 16:14

THE GREAT COMMISSION

We had lots of fun putting this together this week!

"And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world
as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come."
Matthew 24:14

"YOU WERE MADE FOR THIS"

"To belong to Jesus is to embrace the nations with Him that He will one day rule entirely.

Your heart was made for this:

Your heart was made to embrace the global dimension of missional living.

If you don't have a global heart, if you're not getting your arms around the nations - the unreached nations, peoples of the world -
there will be a mild or serious sickness in your soul because your soul was made to do this.

Like a leg was made to walk, and if it doesn't walk it will get sick. Something will go wrong with it.

Many people don't know what's wrong in their souls and what's wrong with their souls is that their souls have shrunk to the level of their concerns. They're not concerned about the nations. We were made to get our arms around the nations with God.

When you pray, "Hallowed be thy name! Thy kingdom come!" that's meant to take your heart and make it as big as history and as large as the globe. And that's a healthy heart. It's a strong, large, healthy heart...

You were made for this."

-John Piper, Joshua Project

. . . . . .

I hadn't heard it said quite that way before, but it's got me thinking...

"For God SO LOVED THE WORLD, that he gave his only Son,
that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."
John 3:16

"For 'everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.' How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, 'How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!'"
Romans 10:13-15

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and
of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you."
Matthew 28:19-20
