Helper, Counselor, Teacher, Comforter...Forgotten God. There are many ways to describe the Holy Spirit.
God's Spirit who dwells within those of faith, He leads and guides, prompts and directs. We are wise to listen.
"Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God, who has made us sufficient to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life."
2 Corinthians 3:5-6
2 Corinthians 3:5-6
The Holy Spirit of God is the voice of truth. He gives gifts. God offers Himself through the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit.
He even speaks through His children. It's awesome to know when God is using one of His followers to speak His words into the heart of one who needs to hear. Whether it be encouragement, correction, discernment, grasping hold of a lost soul searching,
the Holy Spirit speaks. I'm listening...intently.
"But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name,
he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you."
John 14:26

When the Holy Spirit is misunderstood or "forgotten" even as some might say, we can get trapped in religion.
We can get trapped in heady theology. We can miss out on the fellowship of knowing God.

"These things God has revealed to us through the Spirit.
For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God."
1 Corinthians 2:10

1 Corinthians 2:10
Knowing the Holy Spirit is life. Knowing Him is how to make it through each day. Knowing the Holy Spirit of God is to know Christ and hear His voice, today, to share Him with others who need Him desperately...even more than people know.
"Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness."
Romans 8:26

We can have our heads puffed full to overflowing with knowledge and memorization, books, degrees, and titles of high standing, but if we do not KNOW the Holy Sprit, if we do not LOVE Him...we're as lost as the one who rejects.
"How much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God,
purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God."
Hebrews 9:14

The Holy Spirit is Christ. When I think of Jesus and how He KNEW the thoughts of those He sat with, the rejects, the prostitutes, the Pharisees, He knew their hearts. And, if His Spirit dwells within me and if I'm yoked to the Vine so to hear His voice, then if I'm listening...still...available...He can infuse my heart with His care and concern for others. He can use me, empty vessel girl, to minister.
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses
in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Acts 1:8

That's who I want to be, a poured out vessel voice witness for the Lord. I want to know the Holy Spirit and His power.
I want to listen to His voice. I want to discern what He senses in the person standing in front of me, so much so that He can minister to them through me. I long to hear His whispers, to feel what He feels when He looks deeply into eyes, straight to the depths of souls. That's who I want to be...usable to share God's love with those who need Him. And we all need Him. Even those who know Him intimately still need Christ every day...that's how He's set it up.

We're His kids. He's our Dad. We need Him. We need to know Him. We need His Holy Spirit.
