He retreated to be alone with His Father.
He sometimes did this at great length. He stowed away, sought refuge, and He prayed.
"But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed."
Luke 5:16
Likely, Jesus found Himself praying up the sun, often. As my heart grows more and more dependent upon Him for each breath, each minute of even very normal days, the desire to retreat with Him grows in unison. I find myself praying up the sun.
"O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch."
Psalm 5:3
If I wake to sleepers all around me, sun still resting too, I leap inside to think of the communion I'll have "alone".
Me and Him, awakening the dawn...there is no greater joy, nothing more content. HE is everything!
"The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."
Lamentations 3:22-23
Oh, the joy of a new day! The possibilities, come what may! I find myself praying in the morning:
"Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you.
Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul."
Psalm 143:8
Someday, when I meet my Lord and Savior face to face, there is a very real sense of knowing Him that comforts me.
I look to that day with great expectation. And in the interim, while my love for Him grows,
I find it one of the most dear interactions on earth, this gift, this praying up the sun.
"And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark,
[Jesus] departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed."
Mark 1:35
